O's sweep three

From Staff Reports

BEL AIR - Pulling a page from the early 1900's playbook, Sean Lindner started and won two games of a tripleheader that the Cumberland Orioles swept from Petersburg Saturday at Bel Air Field.

The Orioles took the opener 12-2, the second game 10-0 and the third 3-2.

Lindner worked two complete games, although both were halted after the fifth due to the mercy rule. While never overpowering, he totaled just seven strikeouts in both games, he walked only three and allowed just 10 hits. He gave up two earned runs in the 10 innings he worked.

Josh Dolly helped the Cumberland offense with four runs driven in on a double and a single, and Josh Kuykendall finished with three RBIs on a triple and a single. Chad Chambers and Brandon Benson were both 2-for-2, with Chambers adding two runs batted in and three runs scored and Benson scoring three times.

Larry Kruk singled twice for Petersburg.

Cumberland started game two with four runs in the first inning and put the finishing touches on with six runs in the third.

Kuykendall had two more hits with a single and a double, and had three RBIs. Dolly doubled and scored twice, and Mike Hutchinson had a single and two RBIs. Dave Fitzgerald and Derek Haines both had a single, a run scored and an RBI.

Kruk added two more singles for Petersburg, and Josh Ashby also singled twice.

Kuykendall provided all of the offense by hitting a bases-clearing double in the third inning of the third game. Hutchinson hit a triple and scored a run.

Brandon House earned the win by striking out three while allowing four hits.

Cumberland is now 11-6 overall, and 6-3 against Pen Mar-WV teams. They will play Oakland at home on Sunday.
