MCHENRY - Oakland erupted for five runs in the fourth inning in a 5-1 win in the first game, and needed only five innings to win the second by a 10-0 count in a doubleheader sweep of the Tri-State Titans at Garrett College Saturday.
In the opener, Greg Beachy allowed only three hits, walked four and struck out 11 in a complete-game victory. Billy Reams delivered a key double in the big fourth inning. Jamie Clark drove in a run on a suicide squeeze play.
Reams finished with a double and single, Eric Johnson had two singles and Joe Wilt a double for Oakland (7-2).
Brian Powell was tagged with the loss despite allowing only two earned runs and striking out eight.
The Titans committed 10 errors on the day, five in each game.
Powell tripled and scored the Titans' run on a Matt Wright single. Justin Jenkins doubled.
The second game was all Oakland as Torrey Poholsky held Tri-State to one hit and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
After a scoreless first inning, Oakland scored once in the second and three times in the third to go ahead 4-0. The Oaks had four-run fourth and got their final two runs in the fifth to force the 10-run rule into effect.
Reams hit a double, a single, scored twice and knocked in two runs. Bryan Lenhart contributed a pair of singles and an RBI, while Danny Flores had three RBIs with two singles. James Altobello had an RBI double, Chris Shirco a double, and Trey Peterson two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.
Oakland will host Mt. Storm on June 29.
