Greg Beachy fired a four-hit shutout and batterymate Bryan Lenhart drove in the only run of the game as the Oakland Oaks topped the Cumberland Orioles, 1-0, in their Pen-Mar/WV League game Saturday at Garrett College.
The second game of the scheduled twinbill was postponed by rain.
Beachy won a pitchers duel with Cumberland’s Chad Chambers. Beachy scattered four singles, walked two and struck out seven. Chambers allowed five hits over six innings, walked three and fanned four.
The only run came in the bottom of the sixth. Eric Johnson singled, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Billy Reams, who reached second on the throw to third.
After an intentional walk to Matt Miller, Lenhart lofted a sacrifice fly that scored Johnson.
Reams had two singles for the Oaks and was the only multiple hitter for the day.
Oakland (5-1) plays at Clarksburg and Cumberland (3-2) will host Tri-State at Holler Field in 1 p.m. doubleheaders today.
