Mount Storm wins first in split with Clarksburg

Beeghly, Frye combine on 1-hitter

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Player/co-manager Nate Beeghly pitched six innings of no-hit, no-run baseball, before removing himself from the game in favor of T.M. Fyre, who gave up one run and one hit in the seventh, but Mount Storm Powerhouse still prevailed, defeating Clarksburg, 2-1, in the first game of a Penmar-WV League doubleheader Sunday at Petersburg.

Clarksburg won the second game, 8-6.

In the opener, Beeghly struck out three and walked three through six innings of work. Chris Szafran had two singles for Mount Storm, knocked in a run and scored another one as Powerhouse scored single runs in the first and fifth innings. Sean Forney plated Szafran in the first inning, while Szafan knocked home Chris Ashby in the fifth.

Cole Hardway had the only hit for Clarksburg, a single, to knock home Chris Brown, who reached after being hit by a pitch.

In the second game, Pat Robinette singled twice for Clarksburg and knocked home two runs.

For Mount Storm, Szafran singled twice, while Forney doubled.

Mount Storm (1-5) will host Tri-State on Saturday.
