Local teams split Pen-Mar doubleheader

BEL AIR - Josh Kuykendall fired a complete game and knocked in two runs in the first game, and winning pitcher Brian Powell had three hits in the nitecap as the Cumberland Orioles and Tri-State Titans split their Pen-Mar League twinbill on Saturday at Bel Air.

Cumberland won the opener 4-3, and Tri-State took the second game 7-2.

In the first game, Kuykendall scattered five hits, walked only one and struck out three. He aided his cause by driving home runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

Chad Chambers hit a double, Josh Dolly had an RBI single and Jeremy Fisher was hit by a pitch three times and scored three runs for the Orioles.

Justin Jenkins hit a two-run homer and Josh Logsdon and Kody Stiffey doubled for the Titans. Jim Barrett was the loser despite allowing only four hits in six innings.

The second game was all Tri-State, as the Titans scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed. They led 6-1 after five innings.

Powell allowed only five hits, walked one and fanned five in the win. At the plate, he went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles.

Stiffey hit a solo homer and Dave Hetz slapped a two-run single.

Chambers had two singles for the Orioles (3-1), who play at Oakland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
