BEL AIR - The Cumberland Orioles received shutouts from Josh Kuykendall and Chad Chambers on Sunday to begin play in the PenMar-WV League by sweeping a doubleheader from Petersburg.
The Orioles got a 2-0 win out of Kuykendall in the opener as he picked up five strikeouts and allowed only three hits in the win. Chambers earned the win in a 10-0 victory in the second game, allowing only three hits as well.
Cumberland scored four runs in the first inning of game two and finished with 13 hits. Mike Hutchinson scored three times, and drove in a run with a double and a single. Sean Lindner, Josh Dolly and Josh Albert all had two singles. Lindner scored three runs, while Dolly and Albert had two RBIs each.
Eric Saffell finish with a single and a double in two at bats for Petersburg.
After scoring four times in the first, the Orioles made it 6-0 in the second, and forced an early end to the game by scoring four more in the bottom of the sixth.
Hutchinson added two more hits, both singles, and scored both runs in the first game. Dolly doubled twice and drove in a run, and Jeremy Fisher had a double. Kuykendall drove in the second Cumberland run.
The Orioles are 2-0 against PenMar-WV competition and is 5-1 overall. They will play Tri-State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bel Air on Saturday.
