Delaware deer topic of talks
DOVER, Del. (AP) — Public hearings are set in all three Delaware counties on a proposed plan to manage the state’s deer population.
The hearings will be conducted to get public opinion on the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s 90-page plan for managing deer.
Biologist Joe Rogerson, who wrote the report, says part of the state’s challenge is dealing with deer in urban and suburban areas, where hunting is not possible.
Rogerson says problems caused by deer include collisions with motor vehicles.
On the positive side, hunters spent $39 million on hunting-related expenditures in 2006.

DNR will kill deer at night

House Bill 1518 — Would allow hunting for deer on private land on Sundays beginning with the first Sunday in October and continuing through the second Sunday in January, thus encompassing portions of bow, muzzleloader and modern firearms seasons in the counties of Baltimore, Howard, Carroll and Prince Georges as well as the city of Baltimore.

I know this won’t happen, of course, but I’d like to see all hunters support the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service proposal that would legalize crossbows for all licensed hunters throughout the deer archery season.
