The number of bears to die on Maryland roads this year has risen to 43 with the demise of three bruins in Allegany County.
On Oct. 18, a 34-pound male bear was struck and killed atop the Interstate 68 bridge at Clarysville.
On Oct. 21, at the Vocke Road exit of I-68 in LaVale, a 143-pound male died.
On Oct. 23, a female bear struck on I-68 at Rocky Gap State Park was killed. “There wasn’t enough left of this bear to weigh,” said Harry Spiker of the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service.
