DEEP CREEK LAKE STATE PARK — A bass weighing station to be used during organized tournaments at Deep Creek Lake is nearing completion and will be dedicated June 18, according to Dick Brown of the Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation.
The station is near the boat launching area.
“We will actually dedicate it during one of our tournaments that weekend,” Brown said recently. “This is something we have been wanting to do for 15 to 20 years.”
The federation purchased $5,000 worth of materials for the station. Equipment and labor were donated, according to Brown.
The federation has built similar facilities at Gunpowder and Smallwood state parks, he said.
Brown said the tubs, pump and aeration equipment will be available for use at all organized bass fishing tournaments at the lake, whether sponsored by the federation or others.
“We have three tournaments a year here,” Brown said.
“We have 19 clubs in our federation and many of them conduct their own tournaments.”
Some tournaments are of the catch-and-release nature with the bass being measured and their weights estimated.
