Hunter education

A hunter education class will take place March 3-4 at the Petersburg VFW. Instruction will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first day and 1 to 5 p.m. on the second day.

Raccoon in my crockpot

When I was in college I had a friend who was an occasional coon hunter, so we occasionally had roast raccoon for supper. I have told many people about those meals and how much I enjoyed them, but have not eaten raccoon since college.

Md. hunt rules being formed

The Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service, currently in the early stages of setting hunting regulations for the next two years, envisions no changes to the deer bag limits in Region A (Garrett, Allegany and western Washington counties).

On the other hand, substantial changes are being eyeballed for Region B, which is all of Maryland from Clear Spring eastward to the Atlantic Ocean.

Two Bears

Gary Logsdon Jr., middle, shown beside his daughter, Abby, and Gary Logsdon Sr., both of Cumberland, bagged two bears on the opening day of the Pennslvania season. One bear weighed 305 pounds and the other 120 pounds and came from the Stringtown area. Hunters in Bedford County killed 54 bears in 2011.
