I am writing in regards to a recent letter written by Michael Siciliano of LaVale (“This is anything but a new argument,” Oct. 30 Times-News).
I wanted to thank him. You see am the mother of a teenage lesbian daughter. She is bright, beautiful and full of love for everyone. There is not a mean bone in her body.
Yet because she would prefer her partner to be female. She has had to suffer through the ignorance of others.
People say that being gay is something one choses. Why would anyone choose to be advised constantly that they are wrong and hell not heaven is in their future?
I grew up in church, however I hardly ever go now. Mainly because I am tired of being preached to that the loving God that I believe in would forsake such a loving and giving young lady.
I know this is not true. However as a mother it makes me sad. Our churches are no longer full because we cannot accept change.
Everyone deserves the right to marry in God’s house. And for that love to be acknowledged. I believe in the word of God, I still lean on my faith, even though there are so many religious teaching that we would morally and legally object to today!
However if you flip through the pages of the Bible you would read verse after of “Thou shall not judge unless ye be judged.”
My daughter has seen and heard so much negativity from the election and voting on Question 6 (whether to allow same-sex marriage in Maryland).
As I have been reading articles on the debate of Question 6, I wonder what child must be thinking. I want her to fight for her rights as a child of God, as a person.
My daughter is uncertain about Jesus’ love for her, because instead of the signs outside of churches advising “Jesus loves You” They state “Save Marriage, vote against Question 6.”
With all the hatred and judgment a war in the world, we could use more love people.
Churches are to teach of God’s love, good things, faith in Jesus and lasting love. What are you teaching when your signs outside are not welcoming everyone? It was “God so loved the world ... .”
Please be aware that young people are influenced by the things they read and see. If our churches are showing negativity then we will reap what we sow.
Read verse Mark 11:25: “And when you stand praying. If you hold anything against anyone, forgive him. So that your father in heaven may forgive you and your sins.” Or try John 6:37: “The one who comes to me, I will by no means cast out.”
Who are we to decide what is right or wrong and who is the bigger sinner? The one full of judgment and hatred, or the one full of love and hope?
Thank You Michael Siciliano. Thank you for the hope that one day my daughter may know that the Lord instructed us to care for one another and advised to “Let all that you do be done with Love” (1 Corinthians 16:14).
“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (Colossians 3:14).
For nothing is impossible with God.
