In response to “Republicans are a threat to individual freedom” (Sept. 24 Times-News)”
First of all, all politicians threaten our individual freedoms.
“But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government.” — Andrew Jackson, March 4, 1837.
Clint Eastwood didn’t even come close to touching upon a rational thought. From his speech; (1) “ It is that, you, we — we own this country.” who could disagree with that? (2) And when somebody does not do the job, we got to let them go.” Sounds rational to me.
Nobody really cares who you fall in love with; just shut up about it already. Marry your poodle if you want to. Please tell me how the GOP wants to control the female body. Is it because they believe in the sanctity of life?
Or believe taxpayers shouldn’t pay for everybody’s contraceptives. If I have to buy their contraceptives I think they should buy my pizza, wings and beer. No matter what we make legal, God will judge us all in the end.
“They want to overhaul the Medicare system” Democrats and Republicans agree that both will go bankrupt without being changed. The Democrats (gimmedats) just want to steal more from those who have succeeded and give to those gimmedats who are too busy watching the Kardashians to be bothered with a job.
“This country was formed on … democracy.” This statement is proof that we need a pre-voting test. Two questions would be enough.
(1) What form of government do we have in the U.S.?
(2) What is the difference between a democracy and a republic?
If you don’t know these answers, what good is your opinion?
“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” Thomas Jefferson, 1816.
Two centuries ago, a Scotsman named Tytler made this profound observation: “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.
“Republican” and “freedom” used in the same sentence in a positive manner — it’s oxymoronic.”
Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.
Theoretic politicians, who have patronized this species of government, have erroneously supposed that by reducing mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights, they would at the same time be perfectly equalized and assimilated in their possessions, their opinions, and their passions.” The Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay.
If the only thing you have to offer is calling successful business men buffoons and clowns, you might want to keep quiet or at least wait until they are in office. On the other hand if you want to learn more, for the small price of some pizza, wings and beer, maybe I could help you see things a little clearer. God Bless America, he is our only hope.
