The Allegany Tea Party is calling you to action. Senate President Mike Miller has introduced a massive new Maryland gas tax.
Much like Gov. O’Malley’s proposal, Miller wants to add a 3 percent sales tax to each purchased gallon of gas. We already pay a 24 cent per gallon Maryland gas tax.
But, as you know, our legislators are in love with mass transit. The increase in the gas tax is designed to fund mass transit lines; lines used by highly paid workers. Allegany County citizens rank next to last in per capita income for the state of Maryland.
Western Maryland motorists will essentially be paying for services we rarely use. O’Malley has already raised taxes 24 times, hiked the sales tax 20 percent, and jacked toll fees by 50 percent. And he wants more transportation money?
Maryland’s Transportation Trust Fund is collected into one big pot, and then the money is apportioned. Presently, highway motorists generate the lions share of transportation taxes, but consume only 24 percent of the total transportation budget!
Americans For Prosperity has revealed mass transit absorbs 57 percent of Maryland’s transportation budget, but generates less than 5 percent of revenue!
Politicians are using the trucking industry and motorists, to subsidize Maryland mass transit. And, mass transit is losing money annually.
Why are Western Maryland citizens now asked to subsidize mass transit downstate, when we rarely use the mass transit system for our jobs? We already are the motorists paying for mass transit.
We say no to an increase of the gas tax!
Highway motorists consume only 24 percent of the total transportation budget. If mass transit lines are imperative, find the money from the people who use, and profit from the lines daily.
Or better yet, what happened to the 25 percent state budget increase O’Malley created over the past six years? Where was that money spent?
AFP reports O’Malley increased Maryland’s budget by $7 billion over the past six years. You got it right, that is a little more than $1 billion per year.
Yet, not a dime of the increase in the budget was used to fund mass transit lines! But, that won’t stop the O’Malley machine from hiking taxes on motorists.

.org>, and sign the petition against the gas tax. Locate your delegate member, and encourage him to Vote no to a increase of the Maryland gas tax!
