I am writing to inform the community about a free, peer support program for children in grades K-8.
Rainbows for all Children is an international, non-profit organization that offers support and coping skills for children dealing with a death, divorce or other separation in the family.
Rainbows has been in our community for over 20 years helping kids understand their feelings of anger, sadness, guilt and fear. We are fortunate to receive financial support from the Cumberland Rotary Club each year so Rainbows can be offered to families free of charge.
When a death or divorce occurs in a family, everyone is affected. Parents are often grief-stricken or overwhelmed with their own feelings and children may appear to be doing fine.
We know that it is common for children to protect their parents from their pain knowing that their parents are already dealing with enough turmoil.
Therefore, children may keep their feelings bottled up inside and never be given the opportunity to sort them out.
Rainbows is currently accepting registrations for this 10 week program that meets at the Community Center at St. Patrick’s Church on North Centre St. on Tuesday evenings.
