Hello, my name is Joe Brumage. I am president of the Community Model Railroad Club. We are an O-scale club. Many of us were members of the Maryland and West Virginia model railroad club.
Nine years ago the club at the fairgrounds took a vote to become an HO club, which left the O-scale members with out a home. In April of 2003 the fine folks at the Brandenburg Center met with us and donated us a room to build a layout and have our club.
We were contacted in September 2009 that we would have to move our club due to state budget cuts. In October 2009 the Transportation Museum offered us a place to put up our portable layout for the Christmas season, with hopes of building a new layout and having our club there.
We were contacted March 2010 that we would not be able to have our club there due to county cuts and because the Museum will be closing July 2010.
Since 2003 we have had layouts every year at the Rail/Canal Fest, Iron Rail Days in Mt. Savage, Main Street Christmas in Frostburg, as well as Christmas in Mt. Savage.
We held Christmas open houses between Thanksgiving weekend and New Years, we had many calls this past holiday asking if we had a new place for our layout and club.
Model trains are fun for all ages and a part of our history. I am writing you today in hopes that with so many empty building in our county that someone reading the article would be willing to donate a place for us.
We have a lot to offer to our community. Many of our members are retired businesss men from the county and from neighboring W.Va. I am the manager of the new Rite Aid on Virginia Avenue, president of the Frostburg Fire department, and vice-president and assistant chief of the Allegany County Fire Police.
I can be reached at home, (301) 689-6124, cell (240) 580-0174, or e-mail jbrumage@verizon.net.

Invest in downtown area now and keep tourist dollars here
I can understand why plans for a downtown city market and other ideas to stimulate downtown and Canal Place are put on hold due to economic conditions, but now is exactly the time for these initiatives (Commission tables City Market idea,” May 18 Times-News, Page 1A).

Here’s why he prefers the school he’s now attending
School is boring but we all have to go, so choose your school carefully. I attend a Christian school because I don’t have to listen to people cussing, teachers and some class mates are caring, and I’m learning about Christ.
