I’ve noticed that certain hunters are trying to approach this idea of reintroduction of elk into our counties during a time when people have so much more on their minds such as our presidential election.
This would be quite a distraction in order to make this happen, and is this their purpose? If nothing else happens, I think this subject should wait until after the election so more people can focus on this issue.
I think common sense should prevail in this issue. The bear hunt was able to happen again in our counties only because their habitat has shrunk. If we have to kill our bears, where is the room for another species that will be directly competing with our bears?
The one hunter stated in this newspaper that before he leaves this earth, he would like to see elk back in our counties.
This statement from this hunter should be a no-brainer realization that this is about his very big ego. Yes, that is what I said, his ego.
He doesn’t care about our land owners or our farmers. This is about him leaving this world with that huge ego and being forever acknowledged as the hunter that brought elk back to an area that hasn’t had elk for 200 years.
If there is anyone that thinks this so-called meeting at 8 a.m. (Nov. 2 at 9 N. Centre St., Cumberland) is going to produce a majority of opinions on this subject is sadly mistaken.
What is the rush? This meeting needs to wait until after this election so that people can focus on this issue. In the meantime, this hunter, and the hunters that are on his team, can travel to where there are elk to be hunted.
But this isn’t about hunting elk because this is just about egos. Our counties are the last on our governors’ list, let’s not appear to be stupid people also.
