KEYSER, W.Va. — Edward “Pat” Russell Smith, 80, of Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his home.
Born March 2, 1932, in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of the late William T. Smith and Pearl T. (Jenkins) Smith.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Louise Smith; his second wife, Catherine “Kitty” Virginia (Titlow) Smith and two sisters, Mary Finster and Betty Louise Bennett.
Mr. Smith retired in 1969 from as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army. He had 21 years of service that included four tours of Viet Nam.
He had also been a pile driver, working through Local 2311.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Josey) Smith; two sons, Edward R. Smith, of Jane Lew, W.Va. and David Lee Smith, of Ohio; two daughters, Beverly Ann Bonar, of Farmdale, Ohio and Susan Rector, of Fredericksburg, Va.; two step-daughters, Sandra Kay Rice, of Bowie and Jeannie Johnson, of Fountain, W.Va.; a step-son, Hetzel Johnson, of New Creek, W.Va.; a brother, William T. “Bud” Smith III, of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his special dog, Monkey.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, W.Va., on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Chapter 172, Viet Nam Veterans of America.
