FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. — Ann Marie “Annie” Smith Pursel, 64, of Frederick County, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in her home.
Mrs. Pursel was born in 1948, in Cumberland, the daughter of the late William Roy and Mary Elizabeth Smith, of Romney, W.Va.
She was a graduate of Hampshire High School as well as Winchester School of Radiologic Technologists and Virginia School of Massage. Mrs. Pursel was a Radiation Therapist with Winchester Medical Center, retiring in 2011. Mrs. Pursel was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester as well as Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority which she was very active for many years. Annie was passionate about her cause for the American Cancer Society where she was known for helping start Relay For Life both in Winchester and Frederick Counties. She was an avid scrapbooker and enjoyed time with her family and friends.
She married Robert Eugene Pursel on April 29, 1995, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving with her husband is her step-son, Arthur E. Pursel and his wife, Jessica, of Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Danielle Elizabeth Pursel, Jessica Marie Pursel, Connor Eugene Pursel; step-grandchildren, Kiley Ann Sheldon and Justin F. Sheldon; and her brother, Michael Anthony Smith and his wife, Linda, of Romney.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating.
Interment will be private at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.
