CUMBERLAND — George Herbert “Herb” Swain, 77, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Allegany Health, Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph Calvin and Viola Regina (McAbee) Swain. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Swain, Glen Burnie, and sister Myrtle Tucker, Cumberland.
Herb served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired machinist with CSX. He was a member of the Haystack Mountain Sportsman Club. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and car shows.
He is survived by his spouse Roena (Appel) Swain, Cumberland; one son, Ronnie Swain and wife Kathie, Cumberland; one step-son Dennis Mallery, Oldtown; two sisters, Mary Susan Wright, Baltimore, and Margaret Ann Gray, Ill.; three grandchildren Steven and wife Britley, Carpendale, Laura Swain, Cumberland, Jennifer Swain and fiancé Mitchell Zook, Cumberland; two step-grandchildren Christopher and Regina Mallery, Green Spring, W.Va.; and Bryan and Lisa Mallery, LaVale; and four great-grandchildren Gage Swain, Ashlyn Zook, and Madison and Nathan Mallery, Green Spring.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded.
