FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Shirley Mae Malone, 75, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family.
Born March 1, 1937, in Onego, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Zula (Mallow) Long. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Malone and two brothers, Elmer and Roy Long.
Mrs. Malone belonged to the Old Furnace Church of the Brethren.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her children, Robin Smith and husband Ray, Donna Swick and husband Ivan “Bun,” Robert “Kevin” Malone and wife Kelly, Jonas Malone and wife Sheila and Arthur Malone and wife “Bobby Jo.” In addition, she is survived by three sisters, Fae Fuller and husband Ren, Gae MacBurney, and Linda Layton and husband Ralph; nine grandchildren, one step grandson, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Weaver officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mason Malone, Jared Swick, Kenny Malone, Zachary Malone, Derek Malone, Shawn Fincham and Michael Ketterman. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Liller, Jeff Liller, Curt Moreland, Brian Moreland and Buck Malone.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Potomac Valley Hospital, 100 Pin Oak Lane, Keyser, WV 26726.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her sitter, Darlene (from Aging and Family Services) and the Hospice of Potomac Valley Hospital, for the kind, compassionate care and assistance they provided to Shirley.
