CUMBERLAND — M. Diane Thomas, 72, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on March 18, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Casper R. and Zelma (McDermott) Taylor Sr.
She was a 1958 graduate of Ursuline Academy and received her Associate of Arts degree in Lab Technologies from Ursuline College. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Sultana of the Wamba Caravan 89 Order of the Alhambra and a member of the PTA at Saint Mary’s School and the Saint Mary’s Sodality. Diane was very devoted to her faith especially the Blessed Mother.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband, James R. Thomas; three sons, J. Troy Thomas and wife Debbie, of Cumberland, J. Bradford Thomas and wife Beth, of St. Louis, Mo. and Ryan M. Thomas and wife Marcia, of Madison, Wis., and a daughter, Jill Mazzeo and husband Lou, of Cumberland. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Madeline E. Thomas, Katherine M. Thomas, Nicholas S. Mazzeo, Claire Thomas, Kate Thomas, Dom-inic J. Mazzeo, Mary Grace Thomas, Matthew Thomas and Lauren Diane Thomas; one brother, The Honorable Casper R. Taylor Jr. and wife Polly, of Cumberland; two nephews, Brendon B. Taylor and wife Carmen, of Cumberland and Dane E. Taylor and wife Linda, of Copley, Ohio; three great-nephews, Colin, Devin and Rohman, and two great-nieces, Mallory and husband Mike and Quinn.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scarpellifh.com) on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Christian Wake will be held Friday at 4 p.m. with Father Steve Fernandes, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Father Steve Fernandes, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her sons, Troy Thomas, Brad Thomas and Ryan Thomas and Dane Taylor, Lou Mazzeo and Brendon Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Struntz, Denny Smith, Ray Schoch, Larry Lohmeier, Tom Lancaster and Denny Winebrenner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5 Public Square, 307, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
