COLUMBIA — Longtime Frostburg resident, Mary Louise (Chambers) Sittig, age 94, passed away on Jan. 24, 2013, at Vantage House in Columbia.
Born in Eckhart Mines, she was often referred to as one of those good looking Chambers’ girls, and the third eldest of ten children born to Francis and Anne (Chabot) Chambers. Given the family nickname of Weezie, she attended St. Michael’s School in Eckhart and then in Frostburg. After graduating from Beal High, Weezie went on to work for the Bell Telephone Company.
She retired after 42 years of service, having been the president of the Telephone Pioneers. She was also a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Church in Frostburg and the Sodality of the Virgin Mary. A devout Catholic, her faith never wavered, from her early widowhood to terminal cancer at the end.
Her husband, James E. Sittig, predeceased her in 1961. Mrs. Sittig was also predeceased by seven of her siblings, Donald Chambers, John Chambers, Louis Chambers, William Chambers, Eleanor Lakin, Margaret Gehauf, and infant Fredricka Chambers.
Two of her sisters survive, Erma Jeanne Baker and husband Bill and Eileen Cumiskey and husband Charles. She is also survived by all three of her sons and daughters-in-law, James A. and Linda Harris Sittig, Gregory L. and Mary Knox Sittig and Garry F. and Ronna Barnes Sittig. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and num-erous nieces and nephews.
She will long be remembered for her determined spirit and her tenacity to survive.
A memorial service will be held at Rocky Gap Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013.
Cards and condolences may be sent to the Sittigs, 101 DeSales Drive, Purcellville, VA 20132.
