LAVALE — Betty W. Kirk, 87, of LaVale, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 in Miami, Fla.
Born Betty Elaine Weimer on Feb. 1, 1925, in Black Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Melvin Ray Weimer and Minerva Edith Sanner. Her husband, Robert Harvey Kirk, and her brother, Charles Earl Weimer, preceded her in death.
Betty graduated from Rockwood High School in 1943. At age 21, she wed Robert H. Kirk on Oct. 24th, 1946 and was married for 64 years until his death in 2010.
She graduated from the Memorial Hospital Nursing School as a Registered Nurse. Early in her nursing career Ms. Kirk served as the Executive Secretary of the Allegany-Garrett County Heart Association. Betty also worked as an RN at Memorial Hospital and joined the staff of the Cumberland Nursing Home almost from the time the facility opened. Ms. Kirk retired in 1994 from Beverly Enterprises as the nursing and convalescent center’s Director of Nursing Services.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert H Kirk Jr. and wife Jacqueline, of San Antonio, Texas, and Steven C. Kirk and wife Carmen Roqueta, of Miami; three grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda and Zachary Kirk. Her sisters, Lois Kline, Doris Baer and Barbara Weimer; and brothers, Jack and Melvin Weimer also survive her.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, PA., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 3:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
