FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — James Donley Troutman, lovingly known as “Pappy Jim” to his grandchildren, 79, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1933, in Fort Ashby, he was the son of the late Stanley Ellis and Hazel Irene (Alkire) Troutman.
Jim was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School, class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Jim retired from PPG, where he had been a machinist millwright.
At home, he had built a machine shop, where he spent his last years. Jim and his wife, Carolyn, owned and operated Liberty Tax Service in Keyser, W.Va.
He was a member of Clinton Lodge, 86, A.F. & A.M.; 32nd. Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; Ali Ghan Shrine, where he belonged to the Railroad Unit; Romney Chapter 84, O.E.S. and the Upper Potomac Shrine Club.
He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Kriglein) Troutman; three children, David Troutman and wife Paula, of Fort Ashby, Sharron Sibley and husband Clarence “Sib,” of Ridgeley, W.Va. and Stephen Troutman, of Middleburg, Fla.; step-children, Tori Myers, of Ranson, W.Va. and Tony Myers, of Fort Ashby; one brother, Larry Troutman and wife Rita Nelson, of Fort Ashby; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; the two cats, Suzanna and Thomas P., and his granddog, Dusty.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m.
A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.
As per Jim’s request, he will be cremated.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
