OAKLAND — Harold Frederick “Hal” Forsyth Jr., 87, of Oakland, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Aug. 14, 1925, in Anaconda, Mont., he was the son of the late Harold Frederick and Vera (Black) Forsyth Sr.
Hal was a member of the Deep Creek Lions Club and the Elks Lodge 2481, Oakland. He graduated from Amherst University, the University of Montana and from Duke University. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. Hal served on the board and as a parent for Salem Children’s Trust.
He is survived by his wife, Edna M. Forsyth; two sons, Bruce F. Vorsanger and wife, Virginia, Ponte Verda Beach, Fla. and Robert S. Vorsanger and wife, Katherine, Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Diana J. Beran and husband, David, Richmond, Va. and Malinda Dale and husband, Bill, Willow, Alaska; one brother, Robert Bruce Forsyth and wife, Eva, Travelers Rest, S.C.; seven grandchildren, David Beran and wife, Lindsey, Becky Tillson and husband, Chris, Michael Vorsanger, Todd Vorsanger, Corey Vorsanger, Tara Bivins and husband, Rick and Amanda Dale; and four great-granddaughters.
At Hal’s request he will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Hwy., Accident, on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Marsh officiating.
