CUMBERLAND — Guy Bender Gross, Jr., 87, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 5, 1925, in Cumberland, Mr. Gross was the son of the late Guy Bender Gross, Sr., and Halda (Imes) Gross. He was also preceded in death by his son, George Frazee; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II, Guy retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Mount Herman United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans; and a life member of the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.
Guy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Ardell (Frazee) Gross; and his sons, O. Ray Newcomer and wife, Kathi, Tallahassee, Fla., and Daniel Wade Gross and wife, Donna, Carpendale, W.Va. He is also survived by a special niece, Linda Siehler and husband, Lex, LaVale; his grandchildren, Allison M. Newcomer-Okulicz and husband, John, Alexandria, Va., and Eric O. Newcomer, Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wayne Sloan officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
