LONACONING — Ruth Lee Muir, 81, of Bucks Hill Road, Lonaconing, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, surrounded by her family at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born on March 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late David Cuthbertson and Lois (Matthews) Cuthbertson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Fish” Muir, on May 7, 2004, and her brother, Todd Cuthbertson, on Aug. 10, 2003.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing. She was a homemaker and her grandchildren were the love of her life. She never missed her grandchildrens sporting events, as her world revolved around them. Ruth enjoyed many summers at the beach with her family and friends, always traveling along with the “Coney Caravan” following behind.
She is survived her daughters, Sue Ann Nightingale and husband Woody, of Lonaconing and Penny Alkire and husband Steve, also of Lonaconing; two very loved grandchildren, Bobby and Becca Alkire, of Lonaconing; one granddog, “Gizmo"; sister-in-law, Fran Cuthbertson, of Keyser, W.Va. and brother-in-law, Jim Muir and wife Elaine, of Lonaconing; a special cousin, Larry McKenzie and wife Carolyn, of Lonaconing; best friend, Edythe Smith, also of Lonaconing and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A. (www.eichhornmckenzie.com) Lonaconing, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 14 Church St., Lonaconing, MD or the George's Creek Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 155, Lonaconing, MD. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
