HAGERSTOWN — Joan Anna (Arnone) Brewer, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Nov. 21, 1927 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Michael N. and Lucy M. (Fabbri) Arnone.
Joan was a graduate of Beall High School.
She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown.
She retired from the Washington County Board of Education. Joan was also a licensed daycare provider and had worked in the garment industry.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert Slick Brewer, who died Sept. 1, 1989.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with the family and hosting many large family gatherings.
Joan is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Wollard and husband Ray, Barbara Diane Steiner and husband Rod, Debbie Ward and husband Jim, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Terry Acre and friend Dee Helman of Halfway, Jim Acre and wife Sally, of Smithsburg; a sister, Linda Arnone, of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Christie Crossland, Kerri and John Bennett, Sarah and Kane Staley, Ryan and Cassie Acre, Jared Acre and friend Nikki Driggers, Rachel and Jake Olson, Adam and Maggie Ward, Brooke and Brooks Whitson, Joe Acre and fiancé Kara Smith; great-grandchildren, C.J. Crossland, Christie, John, and Sean Bennett, Charlotte Staley, Ryan and Bryce Acre, Tosh and Roxy Olson, Asher and Beckett Whitson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold, James, and Sam Arnone; and a sister, Rose Arnone McKenzie.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Lewis Emerick officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends will be received two hours prior to service at the funeral home.
