FROSTBURG — Chester Abucevicz, 95, of Mount Savage, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 27, 1917, in Barrelville, he is the son of the late Theodore and Julia (Radwilovicz) Abucevicz. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Valentina Meager; two brothers, Constintine Adam and Theodore Michael Abucevicz and one daughter, Apryl Roach.
Chester was an elder of the Barrelville Presbyterian Church as well as the bell ringer, and a US Army veteran of World War II D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He held employment at the Celanese Fiber Corporation in the stone quarries and he supplied timber, the retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Corporation. He was a founding member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club, and the American Legion V.F.W. Old Rail Post 6025.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Norma (Meager) Abucevicz; three daughters, Cheryl Adcock, of Barrelville, Julie Edwards and husband William, of Cumberland and Valerie Abucevicz, of Sunnyside; son-in-law Jeff Smith and wife Rae-Ann; six grandchildren, Kelly Jones and husband Stephen, of Baltimore, Chester Smith, of Mount Savage, Lyndsay Smith, of Baltimore, Sean Adcock, of Barrelville, Christopher Adcock, of Barrelville and Presley Roach, of Cumberland; one great-grandchild, Jacob Jones and one due in June, Eva Pearl Jones; three nephews, Teddy, Keith, and Mikael Abucevicz and family; and one brother, George Abucevicz.
Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Barrelville Presbyterian Church, 13912 Mount Savage Road, Mount Savage, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Luger officiating.
Interment will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be accorded by the Old Rail Post 6025 Honor Guard.
