REV. EUGENE H. “GENE” COLEMAN SR. [Rossville, Ga.]

ROSSVILLE, Ga. — Rev. Eugene Harold “Gene” Coleman Sr., 68, of Rossville, Ga., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his residence.

He began pastoring following his graduation from Zion Bible College in 1965 and for the past 27 years, he has served at East Ridge Christian Church. He was the founder of Carpenter’s Cowboy Church in Chattanooga 17 years ago.  

Rev. Coleman is a third-generation minister and also a veteran radio broadcaster, having worked at WDEF, WGOW, WFLI and was host of the television show “Coleman & People” for nine years. In the 1970’s, he served as Press Secretary for George P. Shafran, Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, worked as a National Business Committee Consultant for the Gerald Ford Presidential Campaign in 1976, served as a fund-raising consultant for the Greater New Orleans Federation of Churches in 1984 and as the director of Division of Administration for the Louisiana State Medical Society.

In addition to him serving as the pastor of Carpenter’s Cowboy Church, he also served as pastoral care provider at Covenant Transport. Through all of Gene’s endeavors, he has stated that the five best things he ever contributed to this world were his children. He loved and served God first, followed by his children and his church. You walked with God on earth and your reward is his company in heaven.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Marvin Harold Coleman.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Hazel Regina Coleman; his children, Kimberly (David) Rumsmoke, Heather Sue Coleman and Tara-Beth Coleman, Gene H. Coleman and Marvin Scott Coleman; step children, Charity K. Trillet, Jeremy (Patricia) Trillet, Joy E. Trillet and Amy R. Trillett; brother John A. (Elsie) Coleman; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step grandchildren and several nieces and nep-hews.

Funeral services were held at Carpenter’s Cowboy Church in Chattanooga, Tenn.  

Locally, the family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.  

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Powell officiating.

His son, Marvin S. Coleman will deliver the eulogy.

Interment will follow in Nethkin Hill Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
