OLDTOWN — Vitto Sgaggero, 89, of Oldtown, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at his home.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Frank and Lena Sgaggero. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lena Beeman and a sister, Elda Binotto.
Vito worked for the railroad for 32 years. He enjoyed carpentry work and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (Alves) Sgaggero; a son, Frank Sgaggero and wife June Lee, of Lonaconing; four daughters, Linda Jeffrey and husband Ron, of Flintstone, Paula Vassallo, of Cumberland, Melinda Messick and husband Randy, of Springfield and Jenny Powers and husband Mike, of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Yemo Sgaggero, of Frostburg and Frank Sgaggero and wife Mary, of Barton and sisters Katherine Nicalota and husband Albert, of Rawlings and Matilda Wilhelm and husband Ray, of Lonaconing.
Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Eric Gauchat O.F.M. Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
