CORRIGANVILLE — Ward Pfeiffer Murray, 79, of Corriganville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born Jan. 14, 1933, in Corriganville, Mr. Murray was the son of the late Maurice Murray and Mary Grace (Pfeiffer) Murray. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ward was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict having served in the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was a self-employed excavating contractor and a Registered Master Plumber. Ward was a member of the Frostburg and Cumberland Moose Lodges; the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W.; the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; and a past member of the Corriganville Volunteer Fire Department.
Ward is survived by his significant other, Pat Steckman; his son, Randy S. Murray and wife, Helena, Mount Savage; and his daughters, Lori R. Orndorff and Donald, Ellerslie, Linda A. Dunn and husband, Donnie, Cumberland, and Mollie C. Musso and husband, Charley, Culpeper, Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie Cowan, Theresa DeWitt, Dylan Dunn, Evan Dunn, Meredith Dunn, Ryan Dunn, Antonio Musso, Carmen Musso, and Roberto Musso; as well as three great-grandsons. Ward also leaves behind Pat’s children, Mark Steckman and wife, Brenda, Denver, Colo., Lance Steckman and wife, Jennifer, Westernport, Susie Robinson and husband, Dave of Kentucky; Pat’s grandchildren, Morgan, Amber, Delaney, and Nick; and the mother of his children, Catherine Murray, Ellerslie. Ward is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends to include, Sally Weyant, Alan Murray, Gary Kline, Donnie Bridges, John Llewellyn, George Taylor, and his morning coffee gang at Kline’s.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ted Marsh officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
