NORTHFIELD, Ohio — Ruth Ann Richards Weirich, 84, died at her home in Northfield, on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Bell White Richards, Thomas Lohr Richards; and an aunt, Verda May White Richey.
Surviving family include her husband of 57 years, Richard Brooks Weirich; her two sons, Richard Thomas of Janesville, Wis. and Stephen Arthur of Miami, Fla.; and three grandchildren, John Lohr, Elizabeth Grace and Peter Joseph all also of Janesville.
Ruth died of natural causes after a prolonged period of poor health. Despite her many infirmities she maintained a cheerful and thankful outlook on life.
She was born and raised in Cumberland, graduated from Allegany High School, then attended and graduated in 1950 from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where she met her future husband the first week of classes at a freshman mixer. She taught English in high schools in Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio for six years. She married Dick on Aug. 21, 1955 in the same house where she died. After six years of married life, the family moved from Ohio to Westport, Conn., and lived there for 31 years. She was an elder in the Presbyterian church and served as a deacon for the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, Conn. She was active in Tres Dias and also served in the Stephen Ministry. Following her husband's retirement in 1992, the family returned to Northfield, where she resided until her death. Throughout her life, Ruth especially enjoyed going in summer months to a Victorian cottage in Mountain Lake Park, where it is said all can partake of "the salubrious climate." No doubt she is now enjoying the most salubrious climate in heaven where she must be overjoyed catching up with many friends and family. Always caring for others more than for herself, Ruth and her generous nature will be dearly missed. She had an excellent mind and was sometimes forthright in stating her opinions: "The truth from Ruth." She also was a tremendous listener and a favorite biblical motto was "Store up your treasures not in this world but the next." Good bye dear wife, mother and friend. We are certain you are now richly adorned running and jumping in paradise.
Visitation and service will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Northfield, with burial to follow at North
