FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Laura L. (Hearton) Smith 99, of Fort Ashby, passed away on Oct. 14, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1913 in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura (Farnsworth) Hearton. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Edward L. Smith; two brothers, John Hearton and Thomas Hearton; two sisters, Irene Allen and Ruth Kisamore
Laura worked at the Celanese in her younger years. She was owner-operator of Laura’s Pet Shop in Ridgeley and the Exotic Pet Shop in Cumberland for 30 plus years before retiring to Bedford, Pa. Laura considered her children to be her greatest accomplishment in this lifetime and most dear to her heart.
Surviving are her three sons, Edward L. Smith Jr. and wife Janet (Bonnell) Smith in Pasadena, Thomas R. Smith and wife Sharon (McMullen) Smith in Glenelg and Randolph L. Smith and wife Deborah (Bauman) Smith of Bedford; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank her wonderful and close caregiver, Stella Bauman-Neilson and many thanks as well to all at the Dawnview Center in Fort Ashby.
