Jay C. Hardy [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND —  Jay Charles Hardy, 57, of Cumberland, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011.

Born June 5, 1954 in Willard, Ohio, he was the son of Charles Junior Hardy and Beatrice Lenor (Beachy) Hardy of Cumberland.

Jay was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1972.  He had also attended Allegany College.

Jay had been a quality control technician for P.P.G. He then worked for CSX as a line foreman. While with the railroad, Jay was a journey electrician. He was certified for air conditioning and refrigeration work and qualified for supervisors’ training school.

He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, LaVale, and the Mason-Dixon Saddle Club.  An avid hunter, Jay enjoyed being a  life-long member of the Picardy Hunting Club.  He also liked to travel.

In addition to his parents, Jay is survived by his wife, Melanie Sue (McKenzie) Hardy; two sons, Nicholas Hardy and girlfriend Ashley Lease, Wellersburg, Pa. and Alexander Hardy and wife Jessica, Fort Hood, Texas; two step-children, Nicholas Chamberlain, Moorefield, W.Va. and Megan Chamberlain, Cumberland; and grandchildren, Lilliana, Tanner, McKenna, Zeus, Keith, and Nicholas.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 12205 Gramlich Road, LaVale, on Wednesday at 11 a.m.  Bishop Lucian Herriott will officiate at the service.  The body will be taken to church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
