ARTEMAS, Pa. — Athlen B. Potts, 86, of Barnes Road, Artemas, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, Johnstown.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1926 in Artemas, Pa., a son of the late Cecil and Edna (Steckman) Potts. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. (Shipley) Potts, on May 20, 2004; and the following siblings, Stanley Potts, Sheldon Potts and Audrey Potts.
On July 29, 2008, in Winchester, Va., he married Barbara E. (Hawkins) Potts.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerry Potts, married to Joy (Harper), of Artemas, Pa., Donald Potts, married to LeAnna (Elbin), of Artemas, Pa., Judy Taylor, of Flintstone, Connie, married to Floyd Elbin, of Artemas, Pa.,Terry Potts, married to Sonya (Growden), of Artemas, Pa. and Ricky Potts, married to Catherine (Morrison), of Hedgesville, W.Va.; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Potts was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church, Clearville and attended Fairview Christian Church, Artemas.
He was employed at Potomac Edison Energy as a Lineman for thirty-four years until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of the Artemas American Legion Post No.155 and the Hyndman V.F.W. Post No. 7375.
Athlen enjoyed bluegrass music, Nascar racing, traveling with his camper and the annual trips to Florida.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, March 1, 2013, in the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, Pa., from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from noon until the hour of service at the church.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, with Pastor Milton Morris officiating.
Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Artemas, with full military honors conducted by the Artemas Honor Guard.
