CUMBERLAND — Leo John Schwenninger, 98, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Golden Living Center.
Born June 27, 1914 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Peter and Marie (Hahn) Schwenninger. He was also preceded in death by his wife Clergy M. (Grahm) Schwenninger; and four brothers and one sister.
Leo was a mechanic for Chaney Transportation in Cumberland. He also loved fishing and caving. Leo also enjoyed looking for old bottles in the area.
Surviving are two sons, Leo H. Schwenninger and wife Ann of Cumberland, John L. Schwenninger of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Samuel Schwenninger and wife Heidi of Milford Mass., Betsy Schwenninger of Cumberland; one great-grandson, William “Willie” Weaver of Cumberland; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
