CLARYSVILLE — Idella M. Gaudio, 92, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born June 17, 1920, in Mount Savage, “Dell” as she was known to many, was the daughter of the late James “Buck” and Anna “Annie” (McMillan) Murray who were married on Dec. 20, 1917, in Cumberland. Buck and Annie resided together on Foundry Row in Mount Savage until their respective deaths, “Buck” on Feb. 28, 1992, at age 95 and “Annie” on Feb. 4, 1995, at age 96.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Gaudio, on July 22, 2007; four brothers, James Murray, Earl Murray, Jack Murray and Charles Murray and two sisters, Melissa Zimerla and Dorothy Martin.
On July 23, 1947, she married Robert Hall, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. They also resided on Foundry Row in Mount Savage. Their daughter, “Dell’s” only child, Christina, was born on July 16, 1949. Their marriage ended in 1959.
Her work ethic was enviable and no doubt attributable, at least in part, to her having lived through the great depression. As a teen she cleaned homes for the wealthier residents in town. In later life, she was employed at the Celanese Corporation, and from 1958 to 1971 she worked at Rosenbaum’s Department Store in Cumberland as a manager in the Millinery Department. She had a talent for fashion and was often asked to model new lines of clothing brought into the store from New York.
In 1964 she met and married Michael Gaudio, a Navy veteran of World War II. The couple built a new home on the Vale Summit Road in Clarysville. Both “Mike” and “Dell” were active members of the Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Idella also belonged to a bowling league and enjoyed the game until she was 90 years old.
Surviving is her daughter, Christina “Christy”L. Wolford, of Clarysville; four grandchildren, Brenton L. Ahalt, of Falling Waters, W.Va., Clover L. Ahalt, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mitchell W. Wolford, of Portland, Ore. and Ashley A. Wolford, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, Emily Godsey, Kameron Gregory, Madison Ahalt, Ayden Wheeler and Julian Shrader; one sister, Mabel Ann “Pat” Nicolard and husband Nick, of Akron, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
Interment will be at Mount Savage Methodist Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at durstfuneralhome.com.
