CUMBERLAND — Donna J. (Turner) (Wills) Kinser, 60, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born Feb. 3, 1953, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Donald H and Dolores J. Turner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jordan and Ethel Turner and Grayson and Madeline Alkire with whom she shared a very special bond.
Donna was a 1971 graduate of Fort Hill High School and a graduate of Frostburg State University with a Bachelors and a Masters degree in education. Donna devoted her life to the art of teaching. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Maryland State Teachers Association, the Allegany County Teachers Association and the Western Maryland Reading Council. For the past 27 years Donna taught at John Humbird Elementary School, where she taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and was also the Reading Specialist. She was an avid sports fan, she loved NASCAR and football, she was a devoted Jeff Gordon fan and she was a steadfast Pittsburgh Steelers Fanatic. She loved to spend time listening to music, she played the piano beautifully; she loved to stay at home and watch her TV shows and movies with her husband by her side. Donna was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Kenneth Kinser; her beloved son, Christopher Wills; her step-children who she loved like her own, Melissa “Mitt” Kinser and Doug Kinser and wife April; two grandchildren, Logan and Landen Kinser, who brought her countless moments of joy and her “adopted” grandson, Cullen Taylor, one sister, Tami, all of Cumberland; and her nephew, John Harshberger and wife Kelly, of Hyndman, Pa. She is also survived by her best friend, Dottie Crabtree, who Donna considered her sister, and many wonderful friends including Mary Kay Blank, Sharon Lancaster, Adrienne Ottaviani, and the entire staff and students of John Humbird Elementary School.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor James Book of Grace Memorial Church officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.
Pallbearer will be Doug Kinser, Robert Kinser, Robert Kinser Jr., Brian Kinser, Tom Lancaster and Cullen Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John Humbird PTA, 120 East Mary St., Cumberland, MD. 21502.
