FRIENDSVILLE — Berdena Theresa Loretta (Savage) Wagner, 91, of Friendsville, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Senator Bob Hooper House, Forest Hill.
Born March 13, 1921, in Friendsville, she was the eleventh of 13 children born to the late Edward and Ida Alice (VanSickle) Savage. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings, Odie and Irvin Savage were both killed in World War II, Arnold Savage (spouse Mabel), Aubrey Savage (spouse Lee Esta), Erman Savage (spouse Dorothy), Kenneth Savage (spouse Laurna) Glen Savage, Leona Bittner (spouse George), Thelma Jones (spouse Herbert) and Florence Savage.
She is survived by two sisters, Peggy Cable (spouse Allen), Frisco, Texas and Jean Selby (spouse Claude, deceased), Friendsville.
Berdena married Oliver Conrad Wagner on June 27, 1942 and moved to Baltimore City where they raised their family. She worked at International Paper Company for 15 years, retiring as an inspector in 1978, and moving back to Friendsville with her husband. He passed away Sept. 7, 1994.
She was an active member of Rush Baptist Church, member of the Friendsville Homemakers and Thursday Senior’s Bowling League. She remained an avid reader all her life. Berdena was very proud of her needle work and the blue ribbons she won at the Garrett County Fair. She enjoyed sharing her work with her family and friends almost as much as they enjoyed receiving her treasures.
She is survived by her three children, Bonita Lee Schuman (spouse Joseph, deceased), Edgewood, George Edward Wagner (spouse Patricia), Freeland, and Christine Louise Benny (spouse Joseph), Baltimore. She will be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Tina Tressler (spouse Jeffrey), Stacy Arnold (spouse Michael), Kim Acierto (spouse Edmund)< Kevin Wagner (spouse Christy) and Melissa Stephens (spouse J.B.); two step-grandchildren, John Rapp (spouse Kerri Ann) and James Ott Jr. (spouse Nikki); 11 great-grandchildren, Jeff Tressler Jr., Alicia Vanderwarka (spouse Michael), Shane Joseph Tressler and Corinne Tressler, Brooke Arnold, Grace Arnold and Olivia Arnold, Sunny Acierto and Kevin Wagner Jr., Coen Wagner and Kellan Wagner; five step-great-grandchildren, John “Jack” Rapp III, Grace Rapp and Caroline Rapp, Danielle Ott and Christian Ott, and four great-great-grandchildren, Kayla Tressler, Camren Tressler, Tyler Vanderwarka and Victor Vanderwarka.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A, 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Addison Cemetery.
