HARRISON, Mich. — William “Bill” Allen Blackburn, 88, of Harrison, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Blackburn was born July 31, 1924 in Charleston, W.Va., the son of Walter Alen Blackburn and Daisy (Barbe) Blackburn.
William served his country in the United States Army, during World War II. Bill was united in marriage to Ms. Julia Ennis Brown on May 24, 1952 in Ohio.
Mr. Blackburn had resided in Harrison since 1980, coming from Sterling Heights, Mich. Bill retired from General Motors in 1980 after 28 years of service. Bill was a member of the John J. Carton Masonic Lodge 436 of Harrison, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 408 of Harrison, Harrison Lions Club and the golf club at Devils Knob golf course of Harrison. Mr. Blackburn was a motorcycle enthusiast for many years and was loyal to the Harley Davidson brand. He also enjoyed NASCAR, reading books and spending quality time with his family and friends.
Surviving Bill is his loving wife of 60 years, Julia E. Blackburn of Harrison; one daughter, Vicki Blackburn of Port Huron, Mich.; one son, Alan Blackburn and wife Janelle of Gaylord, Mich.; one sister, Genevieve Dunton and Alex of Florida; two grandchildren, Jonathon Richard Blackburn and wife Julie of Springfield, Miss. and Robert Alan Blackburn and wife Ashley of Cadillac, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Adriana, Victoria, Saige and Eli; plus many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Christopher William Blackburn; and one brother, Edward Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was very honored and proud of the fact that the Alan name has been used for five generations.
A private family memorial service for Mr. Blackburn will be held at a later date.
