Mike,
I liked your article in Sunday paper (That rifle looks bad). We have to find ways to change the hearts of men to stop the senseless violence in today’s society instead of blaming the inanimate object.
Our politicians believe that they can legislate the problems away. Unfortunately, one cannot legislate morality.
The current 20-round limit in Maryland is more or less the standard capacity for most modern semi-automatic firearms. I could bore you with a history lesson about the venerable M16/AR15, but I simply want to say that many modern pistols that women seem to feel comfortable shooting have more than a 10-round capacity.
I’m sure that someday the future Diane Feinstein’s of the world will say that any repeating rifle is a high capacity assault weapon. I predict that we see the day the Remington 742 will become their most hated when they can no longer blame the little black rifle for the troubles of the country.
One thing in SB281 and HB294 that many people seem to overlook is the
“AMMUNITION” section of the bills. If these bills were to become law, it
would be illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to possess ammunition. How
will our youth be able to hunt with a firearm?
“(B) A PERSON MAY NOT POSSESS AMMUNITION IF THE PERSON IS PROHIBITED FROM POSSESSING A REGULATED FIREARM UNDER § 5–133 OF THIS SUBTITLE."
Anyone under the age of 21 is not allowed to possess a regulated firearm.
