HARRY L. DAWSON [Keyser, W.Va.]

KEYSER, W.Va. — Harry Lester Dawson, 95, of Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby, W.Va.

Born on May 5, 1917, at McCoole, he was a son of the late Harry J. and Mary (Norwood) Dawson. Twice married, he was preceded in death by both wives, Donna M. (Sutherland) Dawson on Nov. 1, 1992, and Virginia M. Iman Dawson on May 12, 2009; a brother, Pete Dawson; a sister, Geraldine Yonker and a nephew, Sonny Dawson.

Mr. Dawson retired in 1982 with 32 years of service as a crane operator with first the B & O Railroad and later with the Chessie System. He was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church and was a 50 year member of the IBEW, Cumberland. He enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of his tomato plants.

Surviving is a niece that he reared as a daughter, Janell Johnson and husband David, of Keyser; two sisters, Pauline Alt and Lola Johnson, both of Keyser; three grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and husband Darren of Frostburg, Matthew Smith and wife Angela and Aaron Smith and wife Jennifer, all of Keyser; nine great-grandchildren; a nephew, David Dawson; two nieces, Diane Evans and Sherry Alt and a special niece, Joyce Dawson.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Karen Long officiating.

Entombment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
