FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Ruth Inez (Barnes) Travis, 83, of Fort Ashby, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 11, 1929 in Fort Ashby, she was the daughter of the late Harley Barnes and Bertha (Alkire) Barnes.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul James Travis, in 2005; as well as her 10 brothers and sisters.
Ruth had worked for the Cumberland Undergarment Factory.
For many years, she was active with the Mineral County Democratic Central Committee and the Ladies Auxiliary of Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W.
Survivors include her daughter, Patsy Grapes, Tampa, Fla.; her son, Franklin J. Travis and wife Cathy, Fort Ashby; several nieces and nephews; a dear friend, Ray-ma Davis; three dogs, Boo-Boo, Jasper, and Tizzy; and the cockatoo, Stubbs.
As per her request, Ruth will be cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Those who knew Ruth, knew she loved animals. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Safe Shelter, Inc., P.O. Box 134, Flintstone, MD 21530.
