WESTERNPORT — Fred Vernon Downey, 86, of Westernport, passed away Feb. 20, 2012 at Potomac Valley Hospital.
Born April 27, 1925 in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Clyde and Alice J. (Bray) Downey.
Fred retired from Westvaco with 44 years of service. He was a gifted man with many talents and there was nothing he enjoyed more than going for drives and the beauty of nature.
Surviving are wife of 58 years, Charlotte (Angle) Downey; sons, Fred M. Downey and wife Dawn, Keyser, W.Va. and Brett S. Downey and wife Casey, Cumberland; daughter, Cheryl M. Hill, Barton; sisters, Reba Yukon, Baltimore and Joy Rae Brown, Cumberland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va., with the Rev. Gary Morris officiating.
