CUMBERLAND — Helen “Ongie” Virginia (Twigg) Mason, 94, of Cumberland, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at The Golden Living Center.
Born Feb. 5, 1918 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh E. Twigg and Naomi (Andrews) Twigg.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas “Tom” Mason; and nine siblings, including her twin sister, Louise Bond.
She had worked for a short time at the Cumberland Celanese Plant.
Helen was a member of the Mt. Herman United Methodist Church, where she had belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was a life member of the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Previously, Helen had belonged to the Women of the Moose, Chapter 914 and the Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245.
“Ongie” is survived by a special niece, Shirley Walbert and husband Pete; great-nieces, Linda Wilt, Susan Drury, and Lisa Mauk; as well as other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from noon until 1 p.m.
The service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Wayne Sloan officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Herman United Methodist Church, 13200 Mt. Herman Road and Williams Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
The family is grateful for the kind, compassionate assistance provided over the years by Theresa Twigg, Pam Iser, and JoJo Appel and husband Robert.
