CUMBERLAND — Naomi M. Deneen, 74, of Cumberland, died peacefully with her family by her side at the Lions Center in Cumberland, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013.
Born April 29, 1938, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Clara (Stahlman) Browning.
Naomi was a 1956 graduate of Hyndman High School. After high school, Naomi went to Washington, D.C., where she was a clerical worker at the United States Dept. of Agriculture. She also worked for the Acacia Insurance Co. She returned to Cumberland when the new Sacred Heart Hospital opened and worked as an outpatient registration receptionist for many years until she became disabled with a back injury.
She is survived by two daughters Connie Beining, of Cumberland and Kathy Matson and husband Andrew, of Hyndman, Pa.; three brothers, Wayne Browning and wife Carmen, of Truckee, Ca., Stephen Kendall Browning and wife Ann, of Mount Morris, Mich. and Roger Stahlman, of Erie, Pa.; five grandsons, Jeremy and Joshua Logsdon, of Hyndman, Jamie Beining, of Kapoeli, Hawaii, Jonathan Matson, of Hyndman and Justin Burkett, of Cumberland and five great-grandchildren, Hailey and Destiny Beining, of Kapoeli, Hawaii, Chance and Channing Logsdon and Jerimiah Twigg, of Hyndman. Naomi was called “Grandma Ome” by her grandchildren. They were the light and joy of her life and she treasured each one of them.
Naomi was a loving, caring and generous person. She had many hardships during her life but she never lost her sense of humor. Her spirit of compassion was always thinking of others first. She loved playing Bingo, cards and Mexican Train. She enjoyed Country and Gospel music. She was loved and admired by many who will miss her and will hold cherished memories of her for many years to come.
Naomi’s family would like to thank the staff of the Lions Center and Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for the excellent care she received during her recent illness. Dr. Nalin for his decades of care, concern and compassion. The family would also like to thank Naomi’s special care givers Linda, Liz, Rebecca, Teresa, and Nicki who provided in home care. Thanks also to Michele, Melody and Destiny of HRDC and to all the drivers who delivered home meals, we cannot thank you enough. To Naomi’s second family, her friends at JFK apartments, we thank you for twelve years of love and concern for Naomi.
At Naomi’s request, her body was cremated.
A memorial service for Naomi will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scarpellifh.com) on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Leo Lavin officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Union Rescue Mission or to the funeral home to help defray the cost of funeral expenses.
