CLEMMONS, N.C. — Marian Frances (Wolfe) Carpenter (MaryAnn, Chief, Polly, Turkey), 80, of Clemmons, joined in Heaven her husband, parents and four brothers on March 3, 2013.
Born in Moorefield, W.Va., on Sept. 18, 1932, Marian was the second of eight children and the oldest daughter of Ira Roosevelt Wolfe and Lillian Virginia (Thomas) Wolfe.
She attended grade school at the Bass one room schoolhouse and graduated from Moorefield High School in 1951. She shouldered large family responsibilities from a young age, and moved to Washington, D.C. after high school graduation to work for the FBI to further help her widowed father and siblings. While in Washington she met a handsome young soldier who introduced her to “pizza pie” and won her heart. Marian and L.A. Carpenter were married for 40 years until his death in 1995. They made their home in Cornelia, Ga., for many years, raising their children and participating in numerous church, civic and social organizations, while L.A. was employed at Chicopee Mfg. Co. They moved to the Winston-Salem, N.C. area in 1977 to pursue employment with Glabman Himes Inc.; Marian retired from there in 2001, after 24 years of exemplary service. Her hobbies included crocheting, baking, orchestrating awesome family trips and visiting her hometown and relatives as often as possible and riding 4-wheelers on Wolfe Mountain. Her sunset years were spent in the warm capable care of Clemmons Village II.
Marian is predeceased by husband, L.A. Carpenter; parents, Ira and Lillian Wolfe; and brothers, Orville, Norman, Wendell “Dutch” and Douglas J. “Dougie”.
She is survived by her siblings, Eva, Wilma and Forrest “Jungle”; children, Pam Carpenter (her summer travelling companion), husband Mike Demchok and children Andy and Cory Mack of New Mexico, Stan Carpenter (her porch-sittin’ coffee-drinkin’ confidant) and daughter, Emilie with grandchildren, Maddie and Autumn Tise of East Bend, N.C. and Tim (her capable and organized mover-n-shaker), wife Shawn Carpenter and children Jordan and Taylor of Clemmons. She was loved as a sister by her Wolfe and Carpenter in-laws, Joyce Wolfe, Sandra Wolfe, Karan and Larry Reavis, Catherine and Larry Sears, John and Peggy Carpenter, Sara and Bill Parnell, Jerry Carpenter, and Jean and Luther Massengill; and numerous nieces, nephews and their children, and Wolfe and Thomas cousins.
The family suggests donations to Community Home Care & Hospice of North Carolina or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St. with Pastor Jay Parkins officiating.
Interment will follow at the Ira Wolfe Cemetery on Wolfe Mountain, Bass, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Condolences to the family may be left at Ms. Carpenter’s obituary at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com .
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fraley Funeral Home.
