PURGITSVILLE, W.Va. — Orville Roy Shoemaker, 72, of Purgitsville Pike, Purgitsville, W.Va., (Junction), went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 1, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones at his residence while under the care of the Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born on April 2, 1940, at Rada, W.Va., he was a the son of the late Orville W. Shoemaker and Lessie D. (See) Shoemaker McDonald. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Olin McDonald.
A 1959 graduate of Romney High School, Mr. Shoemaker worked for over 20 years at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland and retired in 2003 after serving 13 years with the West Virginia Division of Highways in Hampshire County. He was a lifelong member of the Beaver Run Church of the Brethren and attended the Antioch United Methodist Church. Orville was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a great respect and love for the outdoors. He was a loving husband and caring father and was loved by everyone in the community.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Janet Lou (Amtower) Shoemaker; three daughters, Jennifer Wolford and husband Mark, of Augusta, W.Va., Jill Hott and husband Grover, of Shanks, W.Va. and Joelle Agnew and husband John, of Purgitsville; a half sister, June Kuykendall and husband Larry, of Moorefield, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Matthew Wolford, Brittany and Brooke Hott, Kaitlynn and Kailee Simpson and Remington Agnew; one great-granddaughter, Kendell Gasparro; two stepgrandchildren, Christine Shook and Charlie Agnew; two step great-grandchildren, Casey Jo and Kenneth Shook, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Staggs and Chaplain Stephon Reed officiating.
Interment will be in the Thrush Cemetery, Antioch, W.Va.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
