CROSS, W.Va. — Albert E. Shillingburg, 79, of Cross, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born on Jan. 25, 1934, at Bismarck, W.Va., he was son of the late Floyd D. and Lottie V. (Shillingburg) Shillingburg. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ray; two brothers, Lawrence and Ray Shillingburg and a sister, Dora Johnston.
Mr. Shillingburg was retired as a coal miner with Masteller Coal Company, having worked in the mines most of his life. He was a member of the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed boiling and making maple syrup and apple butter and ginseng hunting.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 54 years, Delores J. (Duckworth) Shillingburg; his children, Jeanne Bean and husband Donnie, of Cross, Sharon Harris, of Keyser, Albert “Fox” Shillingburg Jr. and wife Kathy, of Keyser, John Shillingburg and wife Candy, of Antioch, W.Va., Melinda Smith, of Weirton, W.Va., Cassandra Burdock and husband Tom, of Elk Garden, W.Va. and Jonathan Shillingburg, of Cross; four brothers, Frank Shillingburg, of Bayard, W.Va., Alva Shillingburg, of Manassas, Va., Floyd Shillingburg Jr., of Rock Hill, S.C. and William Shillingburg, of Cross; five sisters, Mallicie Kelly and Alberta Taylor, both of Alexandria, Va., Virginia Mason, of Oakland, Georgia Simmons, of Centreville, Va. and Betsy Minnick, of Front Royal, Va.; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Marple and the Rev. Joseph Tichnell officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Sinclair Memorial Park, Cross, W.Va.
